A-Z of Council Services:

Housing Development

House prices across the country have increased, and are continuing to increase, beyond the reach of many people. In East Lindsey, this is particularly pronounced as we have some of the lowest levels of earnings in the Country too. The result of this is that there are more people in need of social or rented accommodation, and levels of homelessness have increased.

We will invest in the development of more affordable homes in the District, encourage social housing in new developments, and return empty properties to use to increase the levels of social housing.

You can find out more about how we work with private developers and builders to deliver affordable housing in the area, by using Section 106 agreements

We will ensure that our services assist those in need: our Housing Support Service will advise people on their options; our Benefits service will process applications accurately and quickly; we will inspect privately rented accommodation, and; we shall work with Registered Social Landlords and Private Landlords to bring about real housing improvements.

The Council's planning services will encourage new build to a high standard, and in areas of need. We will provide services for the homeless, in the first instance looking to prevent them becoming homeless by operating ‘rent assist’ and a homelessness prevention fund, in addition to giving advice.

We shall also be reducing the use of Bed & Breakfast as accommodation for the homeless. We shall offer grants and assistance to those needing disabled facilities, home improvements or repairs.
