A-Z of Council Services:

Food Hygiene Training for food handlers
Food safety legislation has introduced a requirement for food handlers to be trained to level appropriate to their food handling activities. Guidance to the legislation has stated that food handlers who are preparing or handling ‘open food’ should have undertaken and passed at least the six hour foundation certificate in food hygiene.
ELDC provide a limited amount of food hygiene training for food handlers within the area. Courses will normally only be organised when a company can provide the accommodation and sufficient candidates to provide a full course (minimum of eight) just for them.
Individuals or smaller numbers of food handlers requiring training are provided with the contact details of other local training providers.

This service is available to all food business proprietors within ELDC.

Because of the obvious time commitment involved in the provision of food hygiene training courses, only the food safety manager can decide if it is appropriate for ‘in house’ courses to be run. If the person making the enquiry meets the criteria, ie has at least eight members of staff that they wish to be trained to the Foundation level in food safety, they need to be passed through to the food safety manager.

If the caller has less than 8 people who require food hygiene training they can be given the following details;

Anne Whittern at First College on (01507) 601122 or Freephone 0800 019 2722

Boston College on (01205) 365701 Ext. 6244; or

Sue Hurrell at Grimsby College on (01472) 311232 or Freephone 0800 315002

This service is available:
