A profile of the district East Lindsey District Council is geographically one of the largest shire district councils in the country, and covers some 700 square miles. The district covers virtually the entire Lincolnshire coastline, including the seaside resorts of Skegness, Sutton on Sea and Mablethorpe. In the heart of the district lies the Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Leader of the Council

The Council will appoint, each year, a Leader who is the Councillor who heads the largest political group represented on the Council.  The current Leader is Councillor Mrs. Doreen Stephenson.  The Leader of the Council chairs the Meeting of the Council's Executive Board.  The Executive consists of senior Councillors who determine the Council's strategic management and policy development.  The Leader is also a central figure in the Council's relationships with Government and various public and private sector partnerships.  The Leader is supported in her role by two Deputy Leaders, who act as vice-chair of the Executive Board.

Chairman of the Council

The Chairman is a civic role and is similar to a Mayor in that the Chairman of the Council is the first representative of the District.  The role is ceremonial and has no decision-making responsibilities, and is not the same as the role of an Elected Mayor which exists in some parts of the UK.

The Chairman's activities and engagements are looked after by the Chairman's PA who is based in the Chief Executive's office. 

The Chairman of the Council for the current year is Councillor Robert Palmer.

The current Vice-Chairman of the Council is Councillor Stanley Avison.
