The amount of Council Tax you have to pay will depend on three main factors:
- The amount of money needed by East Lindsey District Council, Lincolnshire County Council, Parish/Town Councils and Lincolnshire Police Authority to pay for the services they provide
- The Valuation Band that your property has been placed in
- Whether you are eligible for any help towards your bill such as being granted a discount/exemption or Council Tax Benefit
The Council Tax is made up as follows:
- 50% for the property element
- 50% for the personal element (25% for each of 2 adults)
A full Council Tax bill assumes that there are at least two adults living in the property who are over 18.
If there is only one adult in your household then a 25% discount will be deducted from your bill. This is called a Single Person Discount.
Certain people may be ‘disregarded’ when counting the number of people living in a property and a discount or an exemption may apply which will reduce your Council Tax bill.
Your bill may be further reduced if there is a disabled person living in your property and there are certain features in the property, which are needed by the disabled person because of their disability. This is called Disabled Relief.
Empty Properties
When a property is not anyone’s main home and remains furnished, your bill will be reduced by 10%. This includes properties used as 2nd homes or holiday homes.
If your property is not occupied and is not furnished, an exemption may apply
