PRIVATE HIRE OPERATORS LICENCE AND PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLE LICENCE
To obtain a Private Hire Vehicle Licence you must normally also apply for a Private Hire Operators Licence. Furthermore only persons holding a current Private Hire Drivers Licence are permitted to drive a private hire vehicle(s).
A Private Hire Operators Licence is normally granted by the Council for a one-year period. You should also note the following:
- Vehicle Licence fees are charged for each vehicle per year.
- Driver licence fees are charged for each driver per year.
- The current vehicle plate and bracket fees are charged per vehicle each year and also on the replacement of vehicle. The plate contains information relating to the year, colour and make of the vehicle.
- The vehicle(s) must be presented to the Council for inspection before the vehicle licence is granted and then each March and September thereafter.
- A twice yearly MOT is undertaken at the proprietor’s own expense at one of the Council’s appointed garages.
- All vehicles must hold current insurance for private hire purposes.
The Council’s Private Hire Vehicle Licence renewal date is currently 30th September.
