WITH China 2008 just around the corner, Skegness is jumping on the Olympic bandwagon and hosting its very own sports event.
East Lindsey District Council and Skegness Sports Forum have organised two fun filled days, June 27 and 28, allowing people to try their hand at 14 different activities, including judo, bowls, hockey, netball, kwick cricket, football, tri-golf, tennis, volleyball, fencing, table tennis, rugby, kayaking and dinghy sailing.
All of the activities are free of charge and take place on three sites, Wainfleet Road Playing Field, Skegness Grammar School and the Embassy Swimming Pool.
The District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Councillor Adam Grist, said: "This is an excellent opportunity for budding Olympians of the future to try a series of sports that they’re not necessarily familiar with. We hope that following events of this kind people will find a sport or activity that they enjoy and go on to join a local club or sporting organisation.
"This event is part of our district-wide programme to encourage more people to take part in leisure and community activities," he explained.
All events are open to those aged 6 and over.
