Keith and Orville to light up Mablethorpe

KEITH Harris and Orville the Green Duck are the celebrities delighted to be posting themselves to Mablethorpe for the resort’s famous illuminations switch-on evening on Sunday, July 20, 2008.

The cheeky pair rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with BBC’s the Keith Harris Show, which was followed by Orville’s Top of the Pops chart hit “I Wish I Could Fly” which gave them international stardom.   Keith & Orville have attended five Royal Command Performances and were honoured to perform for Prince William’s 3rd birthday party at Highgrove and Prince Harry’s 3rd birthday at Kensington Palace.

More recently the pair have returned to our screens on the Post Office advert, where they are buying foreign currency.

“I’m sure they won’t be holidaying in Tenerife after they’ve been to our coast”, quipped the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Coastal Regeneration, Neil Cooper: ”The Mablethorpe Switch On is always a highlight of the holiday season on the coast.  Mablethorpe is a family resort and it’s important that we provide good entertainment for all to enjoy.  I hope everyone has a wonderful evening,” he said.

The action packed day also includes an air display above the Mablethorpe sea off the Central Pullover and Promenade. At 3.20pm when there will be a display by a Spitfire, followed by a display by a Dakota at 3.50pm.

Once again there will be evening of entertainment on the Central Pullover. At 7.30pm guest compere Eddie Shaw from Lincs FM will entertain the crowds together with the two guitars duo “Isis” with live music from the 60s through to the charts.

At 8.45pm a procession with Orville on board will leave Stanley Avenue and make its way to the Pullover, carrying the Carnival Queens and Princesses, the Mablethorpe Mermaid, the Mayor of Mablethorpe and Chairman of East Lindsey District Council, all escorted by majorettes and children from local youth groups.

The switch-on itself will take place on the High Street Pullover at 9:45pm followed by a fantastic firework display.
