JUBILEE Park in Woodhall Spa is set for a £1.5m refurbishment at the end of the current season as East Lindsey District Council takes forward a plan to substantially upgrade facilities at the popular outdoor attraction.
From October 2008, work will begin to install a new high quality pool tank for the outdoor swimming pool. Major improvement works will also be carried out on the current changing facilities and the current café will be demolished and replaced with a temporary kiosk, which a view to developing a more permanent facility.
In addition and subject to a funding proposal and project plan, a new home in the park could be found for Woodhall Spa Croquets Club, allowing it to relocate and extend their croquet provision to national standard.
East Lindsey District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Councillor Adam Grist, said: "Working with the Friends of Jubilee Park, we’ve listened to local people, and we’ve been able to put together an extensive refurbishment programme that will see this wonderful attraction is improved for the benefit of local residents and visitors to the area. This project is one part of our wider programme to enhance sports and leisure facilities across the district. It is important that we continue to encourage people to take part in leisure activities and to do this we need high quality facilities," he said.
Chairman of the Friends of Jubilee Park (FOJP) Working Group, Craig Leyland, said: "The FOJP have have worked very hard to secure this investment and look forward to the new season in a first rate facility. We will be working to see the Cafe become a destination in its own right. As Chairman I am delighted with this news and it shows that community groups can affect change through cooperation and understanding."
It is expected that work will be completed in time for the 2009 season.
